One syllable too many, again!

It happened again today, this time at the U.S. Open tennis matches.

It’s a shame that most singers who perform the Star Spangled Banner at special public events do not know the correct way to sing it.

In the phrase “Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave.” the word “banner” is not four syllables (ba-an-e-er); it is only three (ba-ne-er). I know that, my three children know it, and five of my seven grandchildren (those who have learned to talk) know that.

So, why don’t professional singers know it?
