Polluted Speaking

This is one of the times I am grateful for this blog so that I can blow off steam about something I really hate. I despise those people who have the uncontrollable behavior to interject the words “like” and “y’know” as many times as possible while they talk. One of the most common sources of this pollution is talk radio. I seems that even well-educated people do it. When I hear this incessant blabber, I turn it off.

My take on this is that these polluters do not have the ability to fix this problem and are forever doomed to annoy people with the way they talk. Some people are so good at it that they can use these words multiple times in the same sentence, and even in the same breath. Maybe someday they will stop doing it because people will stop listening to them.

On occasion, during a conversation with an abuser, I will call attention to it. However, even when I make them aware of it, they find it almost impossible to stop doing it.

One of the things I do when I here this babble is to cease listening to what is being said and simply tally how many times they use the objectionable words.
