While watching many television series, I’m wearing out the rewind button on my remote. This is because I am missing what is being said. Either the background music is too loud or the sound engineer has put in background noises that overwhelm what the people are saying. Camera angles make it worse. You cannot read lips if you see only the back of the speaker’s head.
What purpose does it serve to drown out what characters are saying? At the very least, it is annoying and detracts from my enjoyment of the show. There are times when I rewind and play the piece back and I still cannot make out what was said. And there is nothing wrong with my hearing. Raising the volume does not help because the background sounds get louder as well.
This annoyance seems to be everywhere these days. Crime shows and mysteries are the worst, because key clues often are missed.
If anyone can explain why this is being done, please let me know.
