Recently, there have been a number of highway deaths in my area caused by drivers going the wrong way. Part of the problem is caused by drivers not paying attention when they enter a highway. However, once they are on the highway, even it there is no traffic, the lane makings will indicate that they are going the wrong way.
The lane markings are in two colors, yellow and white.
The yellow lines separate lanes that are going in opposite directions. It should be on the driver’s left. Therefore, if the yellow line is on the right, rather than on the left, the driver is going the wrong way.
Similarly, if the lanes are separated by a grass median, a cement barrier, or a steel railing, that structure will always be on the driver’s left.
