Y’know Again

The involuntary overuse of “y’know” in speech has become an epidemic, or perhaps even a pandemic. I listen to news on TV quite a lot and I am disturbed and annoyed at the large number speakers (supposedly well educated) who cannot control this affliction.

If nothing else, y’know, they should realize, y’know, that this tick makes it hard, y’know, to listen to what they are saying. Some people use it, y’know, as often as every fourth or fifth word. They lose my attention quickly, y’know.

Besides, if I already know, y’know, why should I listen further?

so, y’know, if “you know” is so ubiquitous, so, why do so many people begin every answer to a question with “so..”? On the West Coast, at least, you know, the “so” is the new first word to begin any answer to a question. So, there, or should I say “so here”?.
